4-H Receives Grant For Beekeeping Project

The  St Clair County 4-H Beekeeping project has received MSU Extension 4-H Participation Fee Grant in the amount of $6,230 to enhance and expand the 4-H beekeeping project area.  With this funding the 4-H Program will not only enhance the existing beekeeping experience for current 4-H club members it will also expand the reach of the project by taking aspects of beekeeping into the classroom and afterschool programs. As a result of the grand award 4-H will be partnering with SCC Parks and Recreation by adding an additional 4-H hive location at the Columbus County Park.  This addition will offer additional youth access to this educational experience near where they live.  Other 4-H hive locations include Smiths Creek American Legion Post, Pine River Nature Center, Capac Area and Casco Twp.  In addition to learning the science of beekeeping youth will participate in the harvest of honey and other hive products that will include development of a business plan to sell honey and hive products with proceeds used to ensure sustainability of the project.
