Are You Up To Taking The Plunge?

polar bear plungeAdventurous St. Clair area residents are needed to plunge into the icy water on Sunday, Feb. 23 at St. Clair Boat Harbor for the St. Clair Polar Plunge. With a crazy costume, a minimum donation of $75 and the courage to take part in this 2014 Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) Polar Plunge, you can help provide more Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) athletes with inclusive opportunities.  Plunge registration starts at 1 p.m., followed by the parade of costumes and Polar Plunge at 2 p.m. The post-plunge party and awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. immediately following the plunge.   If you are interested, you may pre-register online at https://www.firstgiving.com/polarplunge/stclair2014 or on site the day of the event.  This Polar Plunge is one of 30 Polar Plunges planned throughout Michigan from January through March 2014 in Alpena, Ann Arbor/University of Michigan, Belleville, Brighton, Caro, Cheboygan, Chippewa Lake, Clarklake/Jackson, Detroit, Edwardsburg, Fenton, Gaylord, Grand Rapids, Higgins Lake, Holland, Kalamazoo, Lake City, Lansing, Lansing Legislative, Macomb County, Marquette, Monroe, Mt. Pleasant, Muskegon, Saginaw/Bay City, Sault Ste. Marie, St. Clair, Sylvan Lake, Traverse City, Turk Lake/Greenville.  The annual Polar Plunge is known for its wacky costume contest where plungers compete for the Golden Plunger Award for best costume. All plungers will receive an official 2013 Polar Plunge T-shirt. Plungers will also receive incentive gifts for higher levels of fundraising and entry into the post-polar plunge party. Those who don’t want to plunge can also collect donations to receive a T-shirt with the “Too Chicken to Plunge” logo and are invited to attend the post-plunge party.  The Polar Plunge is made possible by the Law Enforcement Torch Run®, a group of police officers and corrections personnel committed to raising funds and awareness for SOMI. Proceeds from the Polar Plunge support the year-round sports training and athletic competition for 19,620 children and adults with intellectual disabilities who live in Michigan.
