Car Hits Guardrail, Causes Other Crashes

Four people suffered minor injuries as the result of three separate crashes Wednesday morning on eastbound I-94 in Kimball Township.  According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of a crash on I-94, about a mile west of Gratiot Road shortly before 7:00 a.m.  A vehicle driven by a 58 year old Port Huron man had struck the median guardrail and ended up without lights partially in the roadway.  While deputies were on the way to the first crash, a second vehicle, driven by a 29 year old woman from Clinton Township, did not see the first vehicle in the darkness and crashed into it.  A third vehicle, driven by 48 year old woman from Columbus Township swerved to avoid crashing into the first two vehicles and was rear-ended by a fourth vehicle, driven by a 25 year old man from West Bloomfield.  The secondary crashes occurred very shortly after the initial (con’t) collision.  Once deputies arrived on the scene, eastbound I-94 was closed at Wadhams Road.  All four drivers in the incident were transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.  Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the initial crash, which remains under investigation. Marysville Police Department and Marysville Fire Department also assisted at the scene of the crash.
