In Standard Deviation, author Katherine Heiny takes a look at marriage, the funny side, the irritating side, the exciting side and the mundane. Graham Cavanaugh is on marriage number two, and his current wife Audra, is the exact opposite of his first wife. That is why he found her so appealing, or so he thought. Graham and wife number two, Audra are raising their son who has Asperger’s, and are working through the challenges of integrating their son into friendships and social situations. This can be heartbreaking and trying Graham feels. However Audra, takes everything in stride, and feels her life is perfect. Her charm may have a tinge of Asperger’s as well. All this proves to be a bit exhausting for Graham. Re-enter Elspeth, wife number one. Did Graham choose correctly when he married Audra? Or, should he have stayed with Elspeth.
