The Light In Summer takes the reader back to Butternut Lake as Mary McNear introduces us to Billy Harper, librarian at the Butternut Lake Library. She lives with her dog Murphy and her teenage son Luke. As sometimes happens, Luke, at thirteen, has had a personality change…the terrible teens seem to hit, and Billy does not know how to reach him. Luke’s grandfather with whom he was very close has recently passed, and Luke is struggling, missing his Pop Pop, and wanting to know more about his father, who has never been in the picture. Billy has pretty much kept away from men, enjoying a good book instead, that is, until she meets Cal Cooper. Cal shows an interest, however he is leaving a marriage, and working through somewhat of a mid-life crisis. Luke’s father then makes an appearance, and Billy is forced to have faith in her decisions and maybe lean on others for direction. Enjoy!
