The fifth annual Fort Gratiot Light Station Sand Sculpting Festival and Competition is set for July 14 through the 16th, providing a long weekend full of fun for the whole family. The strongest field of International Masters will compete along with the addition of husband and wife sculptors Walter Fantino and Francesca Cosmi from Udine, Italy. This family-friendly event offers an array of activities for guests of all ages, as over 450 tons of sand are brought to the light station – The public will have three days to view the sculptures as they progress from piles of sand to works of art, Friday through Sunday. Local summer day camp programs will have the opportunity to participate in sand sculpting schools and Friday is educator’s day. There will be competition for amateurs, individuals and kids, live entertainment, food vendors and beach access. All proceeds from SandFest are used for restoration of the buildings and grounds of the Fort Gratiot Light Station.
