Combating Illegal Firearms

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Task Force are intensifying efforts to enhance community safety, by tackling the rising issue of illegal firearms. so far this year the seizure of these weapons has surged over 50% compared to last year. The Drug Task Force knows that illegal drugs and firearms often coexist, creating a dangerous environment. Sheriff Mat King emphasizes that by removing illegal firearms, they can reduce violent crime in the area. King thanked residents for their support.

Stones N’ Bones Reopens

Sarnia’s natural history museum, Stones N’ Bones, has reopened its doors on weekends, despite being on the market for a new owner. Visitors can explore the museum’s impressive collection of 6,000 artifacts, including dinosaur bones and rare gems, every Friday through Sunday from 11 to 5. Local volunteer Kevin Bly emphasizes the museum’s unique charm, as exhibits are displayed closely together without extensive information, relying instead on storytelling. Admission remains at $7 for adults and $3 for kids.

Stickler Trial Postponed

The trial of Michael Stickler, accused of killing court officer Robert Silver during an eviction attempt, has been postponed until January. The delay was granted after Stickler’s attorney, Sharron Parrish, expressed concerns about her ability to represent him effectively due to her heavy workload from other cases. Parrish recently handled multiple significant trials, including a murder case. St. Clair County Assistant Prosecutor Cailin Wilson hoped for a verdict by year’s end for Silver’s family but acknowledged the necessity of the postponement. The new trial date is set for January 28th.

Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarships Awarded

The Ottawa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Port Huron has announced the winners of its annual scholarships and awards. Michael Kiell from Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School won the Scholarship Essay Award. Other Good Citizens recognized include Sydney Pawlowski (Harbor Beach High School), Abigail Case (New Life Christian Academy), Taylor DeLeon (Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School), Emma Terhune (Marine City High School), Madeline Huysentruyt (Sandusky High School), Sky Langewicz (Algonac High School), and Cody Daily (Landmark Academy). They will be honored at a dinner next April.

Police Officer and Driver Injured in Early Morning Crash

A crash early Saturday morning in Port Huron left a police officer and another driver with minor injuries. Around 2:24 a.m., an officer was driving south on 24th Street when a Dodge Ram, heading east on Dove Street, ran a blinking red light and collided with the patrol car. The impact caused the Dodge Ram to roll over, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. Both drivers were taken to McLaren Port Huron for treatment.
