Lapeer Awarded Grant

Downtown Lapeer is receiving a $15,000 boost through Michigan’s Main Street Vibrancy Grant, part of Governor Whitmer’s ‘Make It in Michigan’ initiative. The money will fund a range of projects including historic plaques, a History Walk, and an English-style phone booth that plays local recordings. Plans also include new bike racks, cleaner streets, a fresh community mural. A new software subscription will help boost volunteer recruitment, community engagement, and event planning to keep downtown lively and connected.

E. Coli Spike Closes Holland Beach

Holland Beach in St. Clair County was closed to swimmers after routine weekly water tests revealed E. coli levels above the state’s safety limit of 300 per 100 milliliters. Health officials said recent rain likely caused runoff that washed animal waste into the lake, triggering the spike in bacteria. They warned that contact with the contaminated water could have led to stomach problems, skin infections, or more serious health issues. The beach remained off-limits as a precaution and is now open to swimmers.
