Sperry’s Moviehouse Game Day

Downtown Port Huron’s Sperry’s Moviehouse is now offering a new way for residents and visitors to enjoy live sports, starting with the Lions vs. Cowboys game on Oct. 13th. The theater at 301 Huron Ave. will broadcast the games, giving fans a unique gathering spot beyond traditional bars. Marketing coordinator Liz Fredendall says it’s an effort to engage the community in a new way. Tickets are $30, which includes theater admission, a meal, and a large popcorn combo. Future games are set for Oct. 20, 27, Nov. 3, with playoff viewings possible if interest grows.

Tragic Moped Accident in Port Huron

A tragic moped accident occurred early Monday morning in Port Huron, claiming the life of a 27-year-old local man. At around 6:36 a.m., he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of 10th Avenue and McPherson Street. Emergency responders quickly arrived, and the victim was rushed to McLaren Port Huron Hospital before being transferred to McLaren Macomb due to the severity of his injuries. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries later that day.

Natacha Hayden Joins the Community Foundation of St. Clair County

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County is set to welcome Natacha Hayden as its new Program Officer for Community Impact starting in January. Currently the Director of the Port Huron Downtown Development Authority, Hayden is known for her strong connections with local businesses and event planning experience. Her hiring coincides with the Foundation’s upcoming three-year strategic plan, which aims to enhance community initiatives. The Foundation, Michigan’s largest grantmaking organization in the Thumb Region, aims to further its impact with her expertise.

10th Street Bridge Repairs

The Department of Public Works closed the 10th Street Bridge for repairs through Friday, between 11:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Crews are repairing sidewalks and steel grating, while also upgrading the traffic signal at 10th and Glenwood Avenues to LED lights. The overnight work minimizes traffic disruption, though the bridge is fully closed and detours are in place. All repairs will be completed by 6 a.m. on Friday. The Department of Public Works apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

New Historical Marker at Lakeport State Park

A new historical marker will commemorate the Port Huron Statement, a key 1960s protest document. Jim Soto, chair of the committee, announced that the Department of Natural Resources approved the marker for Lakeport State Park, where the document was signed. The Students for a Democratic Society drafted the manifesto in 1962 at a UAW camp, now Lakeport State Park. The marker will be installed next summer.

Blue Water Area Calendar Open House

On Sunday, October 13th, Citizens for a Vibrant Community will host an open house at Andy’s Wine Bar in Port Huron to unveil the ’25 Blue Water Area Calendar. From 2 to 5 p.m., attendees can enjoy the festivities and purchase the new calendar, with one complimentary copy for photographers and advertisers. Proceeds from calendar sales will support the upcoming Art on the River festival. This annual art and music event celebrates local creativity and community spirit in Port Huron.
