Electric vehicles (EV) are currently all the rage, and it seems most automakers are beginning to produce more and more electric vehicles as time goes on to meet government standards connected to climate change and green energy.
The issue that has come from automakers is the usage of AM radio stations in the newer EV’s. Eight manufacturers, (BMW, Ford, Tesla, Volvo, Mazda, Polestar, Rivian, Volkswagen) have made the decision to do away with AM radio due to technical hurdles and the belief that AM radio content can be accessed by other means.
AM radio is one of FEMA’s main systems for alerting the public in emergency situations, and is also used for certain news and entertainment that isn’t available on FM stations. The topic is being contested by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) with their new campaign “Depend on AM Radio.”
There are still a few automakers who are committed to AM radio such as Nissan, Hyundai, Jaguar, and Land Rover to name a few.
