Families in Michigan’s Thumb can kick off Independence Day weekend with a free afternoon of activities at the Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum in Port Sanilac. Affordable Housing Development

A new affordable housing project is coming to Port Huron after Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced nearly $19 million in federal tax credits to build low-cost housing across Michigan. More than $1.6 million will support the Robin Crest development in St. Clair County, creating 48 apartments for low- to moderate-income residents. Half of those units will offer extra support services for people in need. Developers say the project will bring dozens of temporary construction jobs and a couple of permanent positions, while helping keep rent more affordable.

Parolee Arrested Again in Child Exploitation Case

A Port Huron man already on parole for past sex offenses is back behind bars following a new child exploitation investigation. Michigan State Police say 55-year-old Raymond Hutchinson was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force after digital evidence was seized earlier this year. The case began with a tip from the Michigan Department of Corrections. Hutchinson now faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime.

Fireworks Rules for July Fourth

As the Fourth of July approaches, residents are being reminded that fireworks laws vary widely by state, and Michigan’s rules are among the most permissive this holiday. In Michigan, people can legally set off consumer fireworks on private property from 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. between June 29th and July 5th. Snover Man Charged in Child Exploitation

A 22-year-old Snover man is facing multiple serious felony charges after a Michigan State Police investigation uncovered alleged online child exploitation and animal abuse. Authorities say Dallas Hartley was arrested June 17th following a probe that began earlier this year, when investigators traced uploads of illegal material to his home in Sanilac County. Digital evidence was seized during a search involving local law enforcement. Hartley is charged with seven felonies, including animal torture and computer crimes. He remains jailed on a $10,000 bond and is due back in court July 1.
