MSU Diabetes Management Support

Over 37 million Americans are living with diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association, with many more at risk. To help the community manage this condition, MSU Extension is offering free virtual sessions focusing on diabetes and prediabetes management. These lunchtime classes, running from November 5th to November 26, will cover vital topics like understanding diabetes, dietary strategies for controlling blood sugar, smart food choices, and staying active. Registration is open until November 20th.

Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan, a non-profit organization based in St. Clair Shores, has been uplifting local children battling health challenges since ’03. They offer free wigs and support services to kids aged 3 to 18 across the state. Recently, Emma, a leukemia patient, received a special hair hat made from her sister Sofia’s donated ponytails. This new option for hair restoration allows families to create custom hats with their loved ones’ hair, providing both comfort and a sense of connection.

BWROC Receives Portion of Opioid Settlement Funds

Port Huron’s Blue Water Recovery and Outreach Center will use $156,000 from Michigan’s opioid settlement to fund three recovery coach salaries, following City Council’s approval. This funding is part of the $264,571 the city received from the state’s legal settlement with opioid manufacturers and distributors. The recovery coaches, who often share lived experience, support locals battling addiction. This year alone, the Center has fielded over 5,000 calls and supports 275 weekly group attendees.

The International Symphony Orchestra at McMorran Place

The International Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its 67th concert season, “Mid Journey,” with the “Windy Journey” series.
