In Sarnia, a woman arrested in January for drugs and a shotgun was re-arrested Tuesday after a weekend robbery incident involving a knife. Two suspects robbed a man on an e-bike near Napier and Elgin streets, and a Good Samaritan was injured trying to intervene. The woman, Laura Chesney, 33, resisted arrest, injuring an officer. She faces multiple charges and remains in jail pending a court appearance today. Chesney had prior arrests involving drugs and weapons.

The annual Fall leaf pick-up program will take place from October 21st to November 30th. Residents must place their leaves on the boulevard in front of their homes by Monday at 7 a.m. for collection any day of the week. Equipment will operate in zones one and two simultaneously. Yard waste bags and containers will also be picked up until December 12th. In a Port Huron shooting case, Circuit Court Judge Daniel Damman delayed a decision on whether the defense can introduce evidence about the victim’s alleged threats. Carmello Wilson, who has been jailed since July ‘of 23 for allegedly shooting KC Curtis Cureton, claims self-defense. Wilson’s attorney argued that Cureton had repeatedly threatened residents where Wilson was staying. Judge Damman expressed concerns over missing details like dates and proof of Wilson’s knowledge of these threats. Wilson faces charges including open murder.

Lapeer Community Schools is nearing the final stages of several major bond-funded construction projects. These include multipurpose room gyms at three elementary schools, as well as upgrades to Lapeer High School’s science labs and bus garage. Crews are wrapping up gym equipment and flooring installations, and new asphalt paving at the bus garage is almost complete. The $44 million bond, approved in ’22, will fund additional projects next year. The district plans a grand opening for completed projects by next July.
