New Historical Marker at Lakeport State Park

A new historical marker will commemorate the Port Huron Statement, a key 1960s protest document. Jim Soto, chair of the committee, announced that the Department of Natural Resources approved the marker for Lakeport State Park, where the document was signed. The Students for a Democratic Society drafted the manifesto in 1962 at a UAW camp, now Lakeport State Park. The marker will be installed next summer.

Blue Water Area Calendar Open House

On Sunday, October 13th, Citizens for a Vibrant Community will host an open house at Andy’s Wine Bar in Port Huron to unveil the ’25 Blue Water Area Calendar. From 2 to 5 p.m., attendees can enjoy the festivities and purchase the new calendar, with one complimentary copy for photographers and advertisers. Proceeds from calendar sales will support the upcoming Art on the River festival. This annual art and music event celebrates local creativity and community spirit in Port Huron.

Michigan State Police Child Porn Arrest

A 25-year-old man from Port Huron, Ethan Jacob Morgan, was arrested by Michigan State Police after being accused of accessing child pornography online. Police obtained a search warrant for Morgan’s digital devices, leading to charges against him for eight felonies. These include serious offenses related to the distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material, with potential prison sentences totaling up to 15 years for the most severe charge. Morgan is currently being held in St. Clair County jail on a $50,000 bond, with a court hearing set for October 8th.

Lamere Fund Supports SC4 Students

The new school year at SC4 looks promising for ten students from Marine City High School, thanks to the Alexander & Celestine Lamere Fund. This fund, established by the late couple in ’09, has now provided support to 21 students, ensuring they can pursue their education without financial stress. For the upcoming school year, new recipients like Brooke Dornoff and Autumn Quinn are set to receive scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $7,000, enabling them to pursue careers in nursing and criminal justice, respectively.

Imlay City Community Schools Threat

Imlay City Community Schools went into a modified secure mode on Friday morning after a threat was made against two high school students. Superintendent Dr. Stu Cameron informed families of the situation via social media at 10:40 a.m., noting that the threat came from a non-student and wasn’t directed at the entire school. Students were kept inside but allowed to continue their activities. Local police, notified by the school’s resource officer, quickly apprehended the suspect, and normal operations resumed within ten minutes. Police are expected to provide more details.

HOPStoberfest 2024

HOPStoberfest is returning to the historic Carnegie for its fifth year, promising a lively evening of craft beer tasting, live music, and games—all in support of a great cause. Attendees can enjoy samples from six Michigan breweries, including ciders and seltzers, along with food from a local food truck. General admission is $40, which includes six drink tickets, while museum members pay just $30. This year, musician Ian Smith will entertain guests, and additional drink tickets will be available for purchase. The event is strictly for those 21 and over.
