Men and Women Who Cook

The 17th annual men and women who cook event is planned for Marwood nursing and rehab on Wednesday, August 13, from five to 7:30pm at the Marwood campus. Funds raised from the event will be used to renovate Marwood’s Main Lounge as they try to reach their goal of $25,000 to provide residents, families and visitors, a comfortable, modern multipurpose room for years to come.

Sate Police Shooting Ruled Justified

The State Attorney General’s Office has found that the February fatal shooting of a man by a state trooper in Port Huron was justified, therefore no criminal charges filed against the trooper. 52 year old Mark Ryan was shot February 12, after troopers responded to a 911 call that Ryan was intoxicated and threatening to take his own life and asking for someone to shoot him. Ryan came out of the home with a pistol in his right hand, which turned out to be a BB gun, walked toward a trooper and raised the gun, prompting the trooper to fire three times, killing him.

Man Arrested for Sexual Assault

 A Fort Gratiot Township woman was taken to McLaren Port Huron recently after arriving at a neighbor’s door disoriented saying she’d been drugged and sexually assaulted. Deputies arrested 67 year-old Charles Fouts Junior of Lennox Township at the apartment. Investigators said the two met on a dating app and later found pictures taken of the woman without her knowledge. Fouts is facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Major League Fishing Team Series

The 2025 Major League Fishing Team Series will launch with the BMW Trailer Hitch Challenge Cup this August. The event will bring about a dozen elite two-man teams to Michigan’s Thumb Coast, an area known for its world-class smallmouth bass fishing. The event is hosted by Discover the Blue and marks the earliest host city reveal in the league’s history.

Bridge to Bay Trail Funding Secured

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has secured a nearly $1 million grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation to help complete the Bridge to Bay Trail. The funding will support 14 miles of planning and construction across eight local communities, including Port Huron, Fort Gratiot, and Algonac. Once completed, the 52-mile trail will stretch from Algonac to Lakeport State Park. Residents and community leaders say the trail improves outdoor access, connects neighborhoods, and enhances regional recreation.

Free Improv Event in Marysville

Healthy Entertainment.net is bringing a free improv event to Marysville on Thursday, August 7th at Venue 1112. Starting at 7 p.m., guests will see classic improv demonstrations followed by quick lessons and prize drawings. Local host Frank S. Bublitz highlights that short improv games, lasting just a few minutes, improve mental and emotional health—benefits backed by major hospitals and universities. Attendees can win free or discounted classes with Frank, who has over a decade of experience teaching improv in mental health settings.
