“Day of Play” at Discovery City

Discovery City Children’s Museum is hosting a family-friendly “Day of Play” on Saturday, with Nickelodeon and the Association of Children’s Museums. Admission is just $5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the St. Clair County Library bookmobile will be on-site for kids to explore new stories. The event encourages families to learn through play, with hands-on activities and interactive exhibits. Space is limited, and registration is required at discoverycityph.com. Historic Barge Art Coming to River Walk

A miniature steel-and-wood version of the historic 1869 steam barge City of Port Huron will soon sail onto the Blue Water River Walk as the next public art piece. Local artist Scott Campbell created the 16-foot-long model to honor the city’s shipbuilding past and the barges that carried lumber across the Great Lakes. Campbell says the project celebrates the city’s early industry. His design was chosen from five finalists, whose 3D models are on display at the Community Foundation downtown through October 3rd

Rotary Plants Peace Pole

St. Clair’s Rotary Club marked the International Day of Peace on Sept. 21st by unveiling a Peace Pole at Rotary Centennial Park. Mayor Bill Cedar Jr. joined local Rotarians for the ceremony, highlighting their dedication to peace at home and abroad. The pole bears “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in English, German, French, and Ojibwa, linking St. Clair to more than 200,000 similar monuments worldwide. Rotary leaders say the pole invites residents to reflect on peace and unity in their daily lives.

Port Huron Woman to Stand Trial

A Port Huron woman accused of killing her boyfriend will stand trial after a St. Clair County judge ruled there is enough evidence to proceed. On Tuesday, 40-year-old Jennifer Goodall was bound over to circuit court for the Sept. 3rd shooting death of 23-year-old Chase Hunter Hoyt. Prosecutors presented Goodall’s own 911 call admitting she shot Hoyt, as well as police testimony and an autopsy confirming homicide. Goodall faces open murder and felony firearm charges that could lead to life in prison. No trial date has been set.

The city’s “Ask the City” platform lets people submit questions and watch video responses from city staff and leaders. Powered by AI technology, the tool provides updates on city projects and answers common questions. Residents can access it anytime through the city website by clicking the “Ask the City” button. Port Huron Cat Care Workshop

St. Clair County animal lovers can sharpen their skills at a full-day workshop on cat care and welfare Saturday, Nov. 10th, at the St. Clair County Library in Port Huron. The Michigan Pet Alliance is hosting the event, offering hands-on training for pet owners, volunteers, and shelter staff. Cat behaviorist Jessica Vankoningsveld will lead sessions on understanding cats and running barn cat programs. Attendees can earn continuing education credits, and registration is now open with discounts for alliance members. This workshop is part of an eight-county statewide series.
