Man Dies During Arrest Attempt

In nearby Fort Gratiot Township, authorities say a 55-year-old man took his own life Thursday as deputies arrived to arrest him on a criminal sexual conduct warrant. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office says detectives got to the home on Carrigan Road just before 12:30 p.m. and heard a gunshot as they approached. The man was found inside with a self-inflicted wound and later died. Investigators also found a device that looked like a homemade bomb, but it turned out to be a realistic fake. No one else was hurt.

Protecting Natural Gas Choice

State Rep. Joe Pavlov of Smiths Creek says Michigan families could see help on their energy bills thanks to House Bill 4486. Passed by the state House last month, the bill blocks local governments from banning natural gas in new homes or buildings. Pavlov says natural gas keeps energy options affordable, especially as heating costs rise across the Thumb. The plan passed 61–42 and now heads to the Senate, with local lawmakers like Greg Alexander, Matthew Bierlein, and Phil Green backing the measure.
