Michigan drivers can now get classic white-on-blue and white-on-black license plates, bringing back designs from the 70s and 80s. Signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the new legacy plates cost a one-time $55 fee, with $50 going to the Michigan Transportation Fund for road improvements. A $10 renewal fee applies yearly. On Presidents Day, February 17th, many Michigan workers will get the day off as the state observes the federal holiday honoring Presidents Washington and Lincoln. Though originally set for Washington’s birthday on February 22nd, the holiday now falls on the third Monday in February. Federal offices, including courts and post offices will be closed. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services received a $300,000 grant from Delta Dental Foundation to support children’s dental health and water fluoridation programs. SEAL! Punk Rock Bowling took over Marcin Bowl in Point Edward recently. With a video game theme, about 200 attendees, some in costume, joined this community event and fundraiser. The event, organized by Dez Percival, collected over 500 non-perishable food items for The Inn of the Good Shepherd and raised $480 for the Sarnia Area Fresh Start Project and $1375 for a local resident in need. Participants enjoyed bowling, music, and awards, fostering community spirit and support for worthy causes.
