Town Hall Speaker Series Lineup

Port Huron Town Hall will kick off its annual Speaker Series on September 8th at McMorran Place Theatre. Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski will open the lineup, sharing her Olympic journey and life as a mother in conversation with a Detroit TV personality. The series continues with author Ben Nemtin on October 13th, former CIA agent Jonna Mendez on November 10th, and broadcaster-musician Devin Scillian on December 8th. Season tickets are available through the McMorran Place Box Office.

Barber Offers Free Back-to-School Haircuts

As Port Huron students get ready to head back to class, barber Tre White is stepping up to help. On August 30th, White will offer free haircuts for boys of all school ages at Knox Field. A ’14 Port Huron High graduate, White wants to ease the back-to-school expenses for families by giving local kids fresh cuts. No appointments are needed, and walk-ins are welcome. If bad weather hits, the event will be rescheduled before school starts.

Henry Winkler Book Reading

Henry Winkler is coming to Marysville Public Library on August 22nd as part of the Marysville Hot Wheels Weekend. He will read from his popular book in a family-friendly event designed especially for kids. Visitors will have the chance to purchase autographed copies and take photos with Winkler. To make sure enough books are available, attendees are encouraged to register in advance through the library’s official website. This event offers a unique opportunity for families to meet the well-known actor and author.

Meth Bust Nets Multiple Felony Charges

On August 1st, the St. Clair County Drug Task Force carried out a search in Riley Township on Braidwood Road. They arrested 46-year-old Joel Smith, who was caught with nearly half a pound of methamphetamine, an AR-15 rifle, ammunition, cash, and drug scales. Smith and others tried to destroy evidence during the raid. Smith was already out on bond for drug charges and now faces multiple felony counts, including drug possession with intent to sell and firearm offenses. His bond was set at $150,000.

Active Shooter Drill Sparks Police Response

Thursday morning in Cass City, Medilodge triggered a response from police and nearby agencies after a 911 call reported an active shooter. The call came around 9:15 a.m., but it was soon clarified that the facility was conducting a planned active shooter drill. During the drill, Medilodge went into lockdown, but someone unaware of the exercise mistakenly called 911. Cass City Police officers still responded to gather details and confirmed there was no real threat. Officials reassured residents that this was a safety practice, not an emergency.

Antique & Classic Boat Show

Port Huron will host the Antique & Classic Boat Show at James C. Acheson Marina on September 5th and 6th. The event highlights vintage boats from Michigan brands like Gar Woods and Chris-Crafts, with a special focus this year on historic race boats from 1930 to 1990. Powerboat racing legend Tom D’Eath, a local sports hall of famer, will also appear. Visitors can enjoy free boat rides, kids’ activities, a frisbee dog show, and local art sales. The event celebrates the area’s rich boating history and offers fun for the whole family.
