Representative Eisen Named Vice Chair Of Transportation Committee In Michigan House

State Rep. Gary Eisen was recently appointed as Vice Chair of the Michigan House Transportation Committee for the 2019-20 legislative session, an important position to help improve the conditions of Michigan roads and bridges.  Committee assignments were announced by Speaker Lee Chatfield.  “As Transportation Vice Chair I will work with my House colleagues to prioritize roads and ensure families can travel safely across the state,” Eisen said. “We must work together to ensure road projects are done on time and on budget, so our investments are of the best possible value to Michigan residents.”  Eisen also will also serve as a member of the Agriculture, Local Government and Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Committees.  Eisen represents the residents of the 81st  District, which includes the communities of Lynn, Berlin, Emmett, Brockway, Greenwood, Gant, Clay, Clyde, Port Huron, St. Clair, East China, China, Cottreville and Mussey Townships, as  well the cities of Yale, St. Clair, Marine, Marysville and Algonac in St. Clair County.

Looking Out Food Bag Project

The federal government shut down has affected many in St. Clair County, especially our military families. Local agencies have partnered to put together emergency food bags to cover the basic needs of these families by “Looking out for those who look out for us!”  How Can You Help? By donating food items to help feed affected families, or by making an online donation at midcitynutrition.org and they can do the shopping for you!
Shopping List – Feeds a family of 4 for a few days:

• Box/bag of stuffing mix
• Box of mashed potatoes
• Box of macaroni and cheese

You may purchase all or some of the items on the list.  All goods may be dropped off at St. Martin Lutheran/Mid City Nutrition Program at 805 Chestnut, (at 8th and Chestnut) between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM., Monday – Friday.  You may also drop off your donations at the YMCA of the Blue Water Area at 1525 3rd St. from 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Saturday, and from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM on Sunday. SC4 Offers Registration For Late-Start Classes In A Variety Of Subjects

Registration is open for late-start winter semester classes at St. Clair County Community College. Seats are still available in 12-week classes starting the week of Feb. 4, and eight-week classes starting the week of March 11. Classes are available in Port Huron and online.  Late-start classes allow students to earn credits at a faster pace. Class topics may include biology, business, computers, English, math, political science, psychology and speech. Examples of specific courses offered this winter include:

  • Art Appreciation, ART 120 64 (online)
  • Microcomputer Applications, CIS 115 64 (online)
  • History Western Civilization to 1715, HIS 101 60 (online)
  • Weight Training 01, PE 128 01 (Port Huron)

Students can search for courses and sections here, and they can register and pay for classes online in the SC4 Portal at portal.sc4.edu. Registration services also are available at SC4’s One-stop Student Services Center located in the Dr. James C. Acheson Welcome Center on the corner of Erie Street and Glenwood Avenue on the Port Huron campus. NOTE:   Due to dangerous icy road conditions accumulating overnight and into the morning commute all Port Huron Schools are closed Wednesday Jan. 23, 2019.  High School exams will move forward one day. Wednesday’s exams will be Thursday and Thursday’s exams will be Monday. A more detailed exam schedule will be sent by each school directly to students.  Wednesday’s Open House / Ribbon Cutting at Port Huron Northern’s new STEAM Lab will proceed as scheduled (6:30 PM).

2019 Dog License Renewals

All dog licenses for 2019 will expire on the month and day of your rabies vaccine date regardless of whether or not the rabies certification expires in 2019, that is according to the St. Clair County Treasurer.  Notices for renewals will be sent by January 28, 2019 for any dog that is currently expired. Future renewal notifications will be mailed within 35 days of the expiration date of the license.   Cost for licenses are $22 for a one year licence for none-sterilized male and female dogs…spayed or neutered dogs are $12 per year.  Three year licenses may be obtained with a small discount.  There is a late fee of $25 in  addition to annual license fee if license is not purchased within thirty (30) days of the expiration date.  For additional information on licensing requirements please visit http://stclaircounty.org/Offices/animal_control
