Council Advances E-Bike Restrictions

A Port Huron e-bike crash last month is driving new downtown restrictions. City Council voted 5-1 Monday to approve rules banning e-bikes, scooters and mopeds from the Thomas Edison Parkway and Downtown Marina boardwalk, plus downtown sidewalks along Huron Avenue and Military Street. Other city sidewalks would cap speeds at 10 mph, dropping to 5 near pedestrians. The vote follows an Aug. 16 crash at Pine Grove Avenue and Prospect Place, where a sidewalk e-bike collided with a vehicle. A second reading is set for Sept. 28.
