A tragic incident occurred in Goodland Township last Wednesday, when a 30-year-old woman drowned while attempting to save her dog from an icy pond. Authorities responded to the home on Armstrong Road around 5:30 p.m. and found the pond frozen with a small area of open water. The woman’s dog was spotted floating in the water, already presumed dead. Firefighters retrieved the woman’s body after she reportedly ventured onto the thin ice to rescue her pet. She was taken to McLaren Lapeer Hospital but was pronounced dead.
