Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most well known figures in not only the Civil Rights Era but in the totality of American History as well. His fight for equality for African Americans helped change the landscape for race relations in the U.S.
To give a bit more insight into who Dr. King was as an individual, here are a few lesser known facts that you may or may not know.
- Dr. King enrolled at Morehouse College at 15 years old.
- He became an ordained Baptist reverend at the age of 19.
- Dr. King has the title of doctor because one of the two degrees he earned is a Doctorate of Philosophy in Systematic Theology, the other is a Bachelor of Divinity degree.
- Last but not least, Dr. King had been arrested 29 times in his pursuit of freedom and equality.
