Genesee County Circuit Court Approved Historic Flint Water Civil Settlement

The Flint water crisis that occurred during 2014 has finally reached a historical civil settlement through the Genesee County Circuit Court.

The state of Michigan will pay $600 million, along with $20 million from the City of Flint, through their insurer – $5 million from McLaren Regional Medical Center, and $1.25 million from Rowe Professional Services Co. This will be the largest civil settlement in Michigan state history.

Settlement agreements dictate approximately 80% of the net settlement fund will be spent on claims of children who were exposed to the Flint River water when they were minors. Another 2% will go to special education services in Genesee County. Approximately 18% will go towards claims of adults and for property damage, and 1% will go toward claims for business losses.
