Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Announces $3 Million In Grants To Empower Young Professionals Across Michigan

Governor Gretchen Whitmer, alongside the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), unveiled the recipients of Young Professionals grants totaling $3 million. These grants aim to provide youth and young adults aged 14-24 with valuable exposure to the workforce, including on-site, hybrid, virtual career exploration activities, job skills training, and earned income opportunities.

The grants have been distributed to Michigan’s 16 Michigan Works! agencies to foster the development and enhancement of locally tailored Young Professionals employment initiatives. These programs are designed to address the unique needs of communities across the state, supporting young individuals facing barriers to employment.

LEO Director Susan Corbin emphasized the significance of the Young Professionals initiative in empowering Michigan’s youth, including those with disabilities, to pursue meaningful career paths. By equipping them with essential skills and opportunities, the initiative aims to fill high-demand jobs, ensuring both personal growth and the state’s economic prosperity.
