Port Huron City Council unanimously approved a plan Monday to redevelop the historic Fead Building on Poplar Street. The century-old former mill at 1635 Poplar will become a $6.8 million mixed-use project with 26 new loft apartments, ground-floor shops, a tenant dog park, and plenty of parking. Developers can recover up to $1.4 million in costs through future property taxes generated by the site. Residents and leaders say the project is exactly the kind of smart reuse the north side needs. Work could start this summer.
