Lake Huron Medical Center Employee and Volunteer of the Month

Lake Huron Medical Center (LHMC) is pleased to announce its January 2020 Employee of the Month, Cheryl Toles, and its January 2020 Volunteer of the Month, Cathy Smart. LHMC is honored to have a strong team of staff and volunteers working hard to deliver high-quality care to the Blue Water Area.

Cheryl is a Registered Nurse in the Definitive Observation Unit (DOU) and has been with LHMC since 2005. She was nominated by a patient who commented, “Though Cheryl was not my RN, she interacted with not only myself, but nearly everyone she meets.  She has a great outgoing personality and truly makes you feel comforted. Cheryl is smart, kind, caring, professional, genuine, incredibly intelligent. She is truly an amazing and wonderful person all around. Thank you for being so incredible from day one of meeting you and in the 6 months of coming here.”

Cathy, and her Afghan Hound therapy dog Zolton, have volunteered at the hospital since July 2018. Together they bring smiles to patients, visitors and staff.  Cathy is always willing to help the volunteer organization and can often be found working at one of the many fundraisers. Cathy is a former nurse and was a great resource when developing infection control protocols for the pet therapy program.  Cathy’s background in wound care and infections control are invaluable, as she is able to recognize the needs of the hospital and offer ways for the Heavenly Hounds to meet those standards.

Lake Huron Medical Center is proud of each of its employees and volunteers; and extends a special thank you and congratulations to all our team members, especially Vanessa and Chuck, as we celebrate their accomplishments.
