The city of Sarnia’s proposal to enhance cyclist safety on Maria Street was rejected by residents. Out of 105 properties consulted, only six supported the plan while 19 opposed it. Cyclist advocate Robert Dickieson believes it was a missed opportunity to improve the area. The proposed changes aimed to reduce cut-through traffic with barriers and lower speed limits. Despite complaints about traffic and speeding, no changes will be made to Maria Street at this time.
