McLaren Health Care Corporation has settled with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Michigan over communication issues for deaf and hard-of-hearing patients. This investigation followed complaints about inadequate auxiliary aids across McLaren facilities statewide.
Under the settlement, McLaren will pay $220,000 to fourteen affected individuals and ensure free access to services like ASL interpreters. They will also improve notifications about these services in hospitals and clinics. Staff will be trained on new policies, and future complaints will be reported to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
