New Lion at the Detroit Zoo

The Detroit Zoo has welcomed a new star to its lion exhibit: Kalu, a nine-year-old, 475-pound lion who joined last month. Kalu impresses with a top speed of 50 miles per hour—more than double Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs’ top speed of 22.03 mph. Kalu’s roar hits 118 decibels, just shy of the noise from Ford Field during last season’s playoff win. The zoo invites visitors to meet Kalu, adding a little roar to their day before cheering on the Lions’ playoff run.
