Fire crews in Lapeer County battled a fast-moving grass fire Wednesday evening in Oregon Township that scorched 31 acres and destroyed a barn. City of Lapeer Fire and Rescue arrived on McDowell Road to flames spreading quickly through dry grass and vegetation. Several nearby departments joined in to fully extinguish hot spots. Thankfully no one was injured. Investigators are still looking into what sparked the fire, and officials urge residents to report any outdoor burns or smoke right away as spring fire danger increases.

In Port Huron, a woman known for recording police interactions is suing an officer, claiming he violated her constitutional rights. Crystal Manke filed a federal lawsuit against Officer Tristan Shoudy, saying he arrested her last year while she filmed him on patrol. The city says the arrest happened on federal railroad property and defends Shoudy’s actions. City Manager James Freed called Manke’s claims false and accused her of stalking officers. The department says it’s now investigating her conduct while standing by Shoudy.

Golf fans near Sandusky get ready — the McKenzie Health System Auxiliary is celebrating 20 years of its annual Golf Scramble. The event tees off June 4th and 5th at Woodland Hills Golf Course on North Gates Road, giving teams two days to take part. Registration starts at 8 a.m., followed by the Golf Ball Drop and a 9 o’clock shotgun start. Players can also take a swing at the Bullseye and Hole-in-One challenges. In Port Huron, the St. Clair County Community College softball team swept Henry Ford College in a doubleheader recently at Heritage Park. The Skippers edged the first game 2-1, with Addyson Caten and Makayla Hennessey powering the offense and Lillian Osborne striking out seven in a complete-game win. In Game Two, SC4 erupted late, scoring ten runs over the final three innings to seal a 10-2 victory. Hennessey went three-for-four with two RBIs, while Lillian Peitz earned the win in the circle.
