St. Clair County Community College is searching for a new trustee after a longtime board member abruptly stepped down. Robert Tansky’s resignation was accepted Monday, ending a tenure that began in 1966, when he first taught business at the school then known as Port Huron Junior College. He joined the board in ’11. No reason was given for his departure. The college is now accepting applications through September 10th, with trustees reviewing candidates September 22nd. The open term runs through December of ’28.

Port Huron will celebrate a fully restored downtown landmark this month. City officials will unveil upgrades to the Night and Day Fountain at McMorran Plaza on September 17th at 2 p.m. The renovation was funded entirely through community donations raised by the Night and Day Ball, a local fundraising event. Residents, donors and city leaders will gather at 701 McMorran Boulevard to celebrate the completed project and its role in downtown Port Huron. Casey’s on the Plaza will be open, selling beverages during the ceremony.

Two people are recovering after a rollover crash near the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. Police say the single-vehicle crash happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday on Thomas Edison Parkway, when the driver lost control and the car flipped. Port Huron Police Sergeant Travis Reed says both occupants, who are in their 20s, were taken to McLaren Port Huron with injuries that are not life-threatening. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
