$248 Million in Federal Reimbursements

FEMA and Michigan officials announced $248 million in federal funds for the state’s COVID-19 response. The grant reimburses the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for COVID-19 testing and emergency measures. Acting FEMA Region 5 Administrator Michael Chesney highlighted the importance of this support for Michigan’s recovery. MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel praised federal partners for aiding vulnerable residents. The funds cover two projects, one fully funded and another 90% covered by FEMA.

St. Clair County Housing Prices

In December, St. Clair County’s median home price was $274,950, down slightly from November’s $275,000, but up 1.9% from last year. The median home, at 1,602 square feet, listed for $165 per square foot. Homes sold faster, at a median of 61 days on the market. In Michigan, the median home price was $268,700, with homes averaging $169 dollars per square foot. Realtor.com’s data reflects homes listed for sale, excluding new construction and pending sales.

Hearts for Hope

Catholic Charities Counseling Services in St. Clair County is hosting a Hearts for Hope event on February 13th, from 5-8 p.m. at the Port Huron Golf Club. The fundraiser will support children’s services, including trauma therapy for kids. This need has grown recently, and the local advisory board aims to raise funds for it. The event will feature food, a cash bar, and a silent auction. Individual tickets are $50, and sponsorships are available. Online bidding opens February 9th.

Man Injured in SUV Rollover Incident

A 23-year-old man from Lexington suffered minor injuries after his SUV rolled over Friday night in Worth Township. Around 9 p.m., emergency crews responded to South Lakeshore Road near Galbraith Line Road. Authorities say the man was trying to pass another vehicle when he hit a snow and ice patch, lost control, and rolled into a field. EMS treated him at the scene before he was taken to Lake Huron Medical Center. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash.
