Rotary Parade Kicks Off Boat Week

Last Wednesday, despite cloudy skies and light rain, hundreds gathered along Huron Avenue in downtown Port Huron to watch the Rotary International Day Parade. This event officially kicked off the annual Boat Week celebrations. Many families hold this parade as a beloved tradition, returning year after year rain or shine. The Port Huron High School Marching Band energized the crowd, joined by alumni and visiting sailors for the weekend’s big race. Rotary Club President Carter Hitesman praised the strong community support that makes this festive gathering possible.

Grant Township Man Seeks Resentencing

A man convicted in the ’96 Jeddo Market shooting in Grant Township is seeking a new sentence. Justin Rose, now 45, was 16 when he and another teen shot store owner Dale Reusser during a robbery. Rose has served nearly 30 years and now argues that his life sentence is unconstitutional under recent Michigan court rulings for juvenile offenders. A hearing is set for today in St. Clair County Circuit Court. Reusser, who survived, still lives with severe long-term effects from the shooting.

Early Morning Pole Barn Blaze

In Lexington Township early Wednesday morning, four nearby fire departments joined forces to tackle a large fire that completely destroyed a pole barn on Wixson Road. The Lexington Fire Department arrived to assist Croswell firefighters who first reported the blaze. Firefighters from Lexington, Croswell, Applegate, and Port Sanilac worked together for more than three hours, battling intense flames until around 5:30 a.m. Despite their determined efforts, the barn was fully engulfed and declared a total loss. Officials are currently investigating the cause of the fire, but no details have been released yet.
