SOS Marysville and Marysville Fire Department Give Away Over 1,000 Turkeys

Hundreds of volunteers gathered Saturday at the Marysville Fire Department to distribute over 1,000 turkeys to families in need for Thanksgiving. The SOS Marysville Food Pantry, which raised funds through its “Together We Can Fight Hunger” campaign, ran out of turkeys for the first time in its history, despite having more food than ever before. More than 1,200 families came by, and those who missed out received food from the pantry’s stockpile of over 96,000 pounds of donations.

Anthony Wing has resigned as Executive Director of the International Symphony Orchestra, with Elyse Duchesne stepping in as Interim Executive Director. Elyse will manage operations during the search for a permanent replacement. Dinah Bianchi joins as Managing Director to oversee performances and programming. SC4 Tip-Off with Juliene Brazinski Simpson

Juliene Brazinski Simpson, a Basketball Hall of Famer and co-captain of the first U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball team, was a special guest at the inaugural SC4 Thumbcoast Tip-Off at St. Clair County Community College over the weekend. She delivered a keynote speech and performed ceremonial tip-offs at the tournament, which featured top junior college women’s basketball teams. Simpson, who had previously visited for the 2023 NJCAA Championships, praised the area’s welcoming community.

St. Clair County Housing Report

In October, St. Clair County saw the median home price rise slightly to $283,000, up just 0.2% from the previous month. Compared to last year, home prices in the area are up 2%, with homes listed at $176 per square foot. Homes are selling faster locally, with the median time on the market dropping to 43 days, faster than the national average of 58 days. However, new listings in the county dropped 4.3% from last year, with about 180 homes hitting the market.

Hunter Helps Catch Fugitive

A Battle Creek man wanted on multiple warrants was arrested Friday in Emmett Township after a deer hunter reported suspicious behavior near his four-wheeler, according to Michigan State Police. The 28-year-old suspect, already involved in a dangerous hit-and-run earlier that morning, had fled into the woods after ramming his girlfriend’s vehicle multiple times and causing a multi-car crash on Michigan Avenue. Police from several agencies, already searching the area, quickly located and arrested him after the hunter’s tip. Authorities praised the hunter’s vigilance.
