Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarships Awarded

The Ottawa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Port Huron has announced the winners of its annual scholarships and awards. Michael Kiell from Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School won the Scholarship Essay Award. Other Good Citizens recognized include Sydney Pawlowski (Harbor Beach High School), Abigail Case (New Life Christian Academy), Taylor DeLeon (Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School), Emma Terhune (Marine City High School), Madeline Huysentruyt (Sandusky High School), Sky Langewicz (Algonac High School), and Cody Daily (Landmark Academy). They will be honored at a dinner next April.

Croswell Drug Arrest

A 37-year-old man from Croswell has been charged with drug and firearm offenses following his arrest in late October. The Sanilac County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at his home on North Howard Avenue after a joint investigation with the St. Clair County Drug Task Force. During the search, authorities discovered methamphetamine, along with several firearms and ammunition, which he was not legally allowed to possess due to his criminal history. He was arraigned the next day and set with a $2,000 bond.

Competitive Election is Underway

In Port Huron, a competitive election is underway as nine candidates vie for three city council seats today. Incumbents Sherry Archibald, Teri Lamb, and Bob Mosurak are running for re-election against challengers Barbra Payton, Richard Carwile, Holden Gauthier, John Middleton, Brian Farquhar, and Jason Heilig. Council members serve four-year terms. Meanwhile, Mayor Pauline Repp is aiming for another two-year term, facing off against councilwoman Anita Ashford.

Travis Stone Drug Arrest

Travis Stone, a 39-year-old man from St. Clair County, was arrested after a police raid uncovered a stash of illegal drugs at his home. Authorities from the Drug Task Force found significant amounts of methamphetamine, LSD, and mushrooms, along with a handgun and ammunition. Stone faces seven charges as a repeat offender, including operating a drug house and illegal possession of a firearm. He is currently held at St. Clair County Jail on a $50,000 bond and will return to court today.

St. Clair County Home Sales

In St. Clair County, home sales saw a decline in August, with the median sale price dropping to $216,000, down 4.4% from July. This reflects a significant 20.4% drop in recorded sales, falling from 235 to 187 transactions compared to last year. Despite this downturn, prices for single-family homes rose 13.2% since August ’23. In contrast, the market for condominiums and townhomes thrived, with prices increasing by 21.7% from July to a median of $292,000.
