Stimac Trial Moves to Final Stage

The St. Clair County murder trial of Wyatt Stimac is now in the jury’s hands after both sides rested their cases Thursday. Prosecutors played Stimac’s interview where he admitted following his father into the garage and firing five shots. The defense argued the killing wasn’t planned and should not be first-degree murder. A knife-related charge was dismissed, but the main charge stays. Jurors returned Friday for instructions and closing arguments. Stimac faces life in prison if convicted, plus two years for the firearm.

Keep Gas Meters Clear During Winter Snow

SEMCO Energy is urging Port Huron residents to keep natural gas meters clear as winter weather moves in. The company says snow and ice can block meters and vents, which may cause dangerous buildups or disrupt service. Residents are encouraged to gently brush away soft snow with a hand or broom and avoid piling snow against meters when shoveling or plowing. SEMCO also warns people not to chip away ice or use de-icer on gas equipment. Anyone who finds their meter frozen in ice should call SEMCO for help immediately.
