Heritage Hunters

Lambton County Archives is launching Heritage Hunters, a new video series exploring local family histories. Archivist Nicole Aszalos said the series highlights personal connections within Lambton’s history through genealogical research. Applications are open until March 28th, with filming set to take place between May and July. The series will premiere in December. No genealogical experience is required, and all services are free. Participants need a connection to Lambton County but no prior experience is required.

Tribute to Rosie the Riveter

On Friday, March 28th, Claire Kitchin Dahl will present “Tribute to Rosie the Riveter” in Port Sanilac. Dahl, a retired history teacher, will share the inspiring story of women’s crucial roles during World War II, focusing on the Willow Run B-24 Bomber Plant and Detroit’s automotive efforts. Dressed in iconic blue overalls, she’ll highlight the courage and creativity of the women who answered the call during the war. Admission is free for Sanilac County Historical Society members, or a $10 donation for non members.

Bail Scam Guilty Plea

Mike Kelly Tristant, 23, of Wales Township, pleaded guilty to fraud after posing as a bail bondsman to scam a local woman out of $8,500. In January, he convinced her that her grandson was in jail and needed bail. Tristant collected the money, but when he called the next day asking for $12,000 more, the woman realized it was a scam and contacted Michigan State Police. Officers caught him attempting to flee when he returned to pick up the additional payment. Tristant faces up to five years in prison.
