Michigan Wins Over $7 Million In Grants To Improve Transportation Efficiency And Safety

With the shift in transportation going electric, the State of Michigan is staying competitive by improving their technologies, safety, and efficiency in the realm of transportation with newly awarded funding from federal grants. 

Over $7 million has been awarded in the first-round of Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) grants from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). 

There were only two other states in the nation that received more projects funded which are California and New York. 

Four Michigan projects have qualified for the funding which will have a significant impact on transportation safety, efficiency, and international commerce. They include projects with: the City of Detroit, the Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Road Commission for Oakland County.

Blue Water Area Transit Announces New Program For Local Students Needing A Ride

Blue Water Area Transit and the Port Huron Area School District have partnered to help students who have no way of transportation, get to and from school free of charge.

The “Missed The Bus Just Call Us!” program is for middle and high school students who attend any Port Huron Area schools. Service areas include Port Huron, Port Huron Township, Ft. Gratiot Township, and Burtchville Township. 

The service will be available beginning Monday, April 12th, and will be available on all scheduled school days.  

To use the service, call (810) 987-7373, then dial option #2 at the voice prompt. Transportation will only be available within Blue Water Transit’s service area.

The Arc Of St. Clair County Hosting Their Annual Flower Sale Fundraiser

The Arc of St. Clair County works to empower every adult with an intellectual/developmental disability such as autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, along with a host of others.

They are accepting orders for their Annual Flower Sale to raise funds that will further assist the organization and their goals. A goal of $5,000 is needed and they need the support of the community to accomplish this. 

Orders must be placed by Monday, April 10th. Individuals will then be able to pick up their orders on Friday, May 10th, between Noon – 6 p.m., just in time for Mothers Day!

Prices range from $16 to $58, with a selection that includes geraniums, begonia’s, and more. Styles and types may vary due to availability at time of delivery.

Port Huron Police Dept. Announce Special Needs And Autism Acceptance Day

The month of April is World Autism Month, and the Port Huron Police Department is putting on an event to spread awareness and resources for the community. 

Special Needs and Autism Acceptance Day 2023 will take place on Saturday, April 29th, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Pine Grove Park in Port Huron.

The event will be free of charge, and all residents are welcome. People will be able to meet first responders, tour emergency vehicles and more. There will be games, crafts, and activities available, and guests can register for the home alert program. 

Organizations such as Oakland and Ferris Therapy Dogs, Michigan Alliance for Families, St. Clair County Community Mental Health, and many more will be available providing resources and information for those in attendance.

SC4 Career Fair Employer Registration Deadline April 4th

With the economy in such a volatile state it is hard for employers to find willing, qualified candidates to be a part of their winning team. St. Clair County Community College (SC4) is holding its 2023 Career Fair next month that may help employers find the perfect applicant for their business.

The SC4 Career Fair takes place Tuesday, April 18th, from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the SC4 Fieldhouse. 

Employers who take advantage and register will be able to meet with qualified SC4 graduates, students and community members, meet with eager high school seniors, and also post their positions on SC4’s Career Coach to extend their reach.  

Employers must register and pay by Tuesday, April 4th. Registration is $175 and includes up to two representatives and lunch. Limited spaces available.

Blue Water Young Professionals Invite You On A Tour Of The Wrigley Center

If you live in the Blue Water Area you may have heard about the new $14 million dollar investment The Wrigley Center located in downtown Port Huron. If you haven’t heard about it, The Blue Water Young Professionals would like to invite you on a tour to check out one of the city’s newest and exciting projects.

From a vacant building in 2021 to its nearly complete state, the Wrigley Center will offer housing with the Wrigley Center Lofts, as well as shopping and entertainment at the still under construction Wrigley Hall.

The exclusive tour, which is designated for young professionals in the area between the ages of 21-35, will be hosted by Korissa Kramer of Kramer Realty who will be providing refreshments, snacks, and a bit of socializing before the tour begins. 

Those participating in the tour will meet at the Wrigley Center in Apt #410 at 5:30 p.m.
