Local Historian Finds Mistake In Chevy Dealers Ad Involving The Fort Gratiot Lighthouse

A Michigan Chevy dealer association made a mistake in its recent advertising campaign that was caught by one of our local historians.

The advertisement featured a photo of a Chevy Silverado with the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse in the background. The problem with the photo was the inaccuracy of the color emanating from the lighthouse. The photo featured a white light coming from the lighthouse, but those who are familiar with the landmark recognized that the light should have been green.

Many who are familiar with the Lighthouse noticed the mistake, but Andrew Kercher, the community engagement manager at the Port Huron Museums was one of the first to notice and mention it on Facebook.

“Anyone who is familiar with the Fort Gratiot Light knows all about our unique green light, so their photoshopped white beam stood out like a sore thumb. It was a great opportunity to share online and see if those who like our facebook page caught the mistake as well. It was great that Chevy fixed it and thanked us for being fact checkers,” says Kercher.

The mistake has since been corrected by the dealer association who originally ran the ad.

Lakeside Cemetery Winter Cleanup Advisory

For those of us who have lost a loved one, we sometimes like to visit their gravesites and leave items in memory, or as tribute to their passing. Sometimes these items accumulate and become an eyesore or they are not allowed on the premises of the cemetery.

If you have a loved one with a plot at Lakeside Cemetery, located at 3663 10th Ave, Port Huron they have issued a reminder for all winter decorations and non-conforming items to be removed from all plots by Friday, March 31st.

All non-permitted items will be removed and disposed of by cemetery personnel without further notice beginning Monday, April 1st.

The only items permitted on grave sites at Lakeside Cemetery are patriotic flags and flowers.

If you have further questions or would like to know the cemetery rules, visit: porthuron.org.

Blue Water Bridge Increasing Toll Prices

If you cross the Blue Water Bridge on a regular basis, you may see an increase in the toll fare beginning April 1st.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) introduced a currency parity policy in 2016. The Canadian rate for eastbound traffic is reviewed and adjusted April 1st and October 1st of each year.

Toll rates paid in Canadian dollars (CAD) for traffic heading into Canada will increase by $0.25 for passenger vehicles, extra axles, trucks and buses.

The Blue Water Bridge is currently enrolling customers in its EDGE pass program, which allows commuters to receive a discounted rate for non-commercial vehicles with no more than two axles. It also offers a dedicated toll lane.

For more information concerning the upcoming changes, or the EDGE program, visit: bluewaterbridge.us.
