Woman Seeks Separate Trial

In St. Clair County, Sayon Florence, accused of arranging the murder of her ex-boyfriend Vincent Buckles, is asking for a separate trial from her co-defendant, Dazman Drake. Both are charged in the January shooting at Buckles’ home. Florence’s attorney says a joint trial would lead to the two blaming each other, muddling the case for jurors. The prosecution claims Florence asked Drake to kill Buckles. A hearing to decide is scheduled for July 28.

DTE Sues St. Clair County

In Port Huron DTE Electric Company is suing St. Clair County over new rules making it tougher to build solar farms. The county’s regulations, set in May of this year, demand stricter noise limits and costly decommissioning plans, which DTE says break state laws meant to boost clean energy. The lawsuit, filed in early July, claims these rules could stall local solar projects, hurting Michigan’s goal of cleaner energy by 2040. A court will decide the issue later this year. DTE’s attorneys declined to comment.
