On Saturday, a two-vehicle crash occurred at Peck and Babcock Roads in Lexington Township. A 76-year-old man from Kimball Township driving a Chevy Tahoe failed to stop at the intersection and hit a Ford Explorer driven by a 44-year-old Howell man. The Tahoe ended up in a ditch on Babcock Road, and the Explorer landed in a ditch on Peck Road. The Tahoe driver was unharmed, but the Explorer driver and three passengers were taken to Port Huron McLaren for treatment. No alcohol or drugs were involved.

On Friday, July 18th, Port Sanilac’s Sanilac County Museum will host a special virtual talk called “The Last Meal on the Titanic.” Culinary historian Samuel Wai will share stories about the Titanic’s famous first-class dining, including its menu, wine pairings, and the social customs of the era. Early Saturday morning in Evergreen Township, a 20-year-old Shelby Township man was accidentally shot in the wrist while at a friend’s home. The injury happened when the friend, a 21-year-old Sterling Heights man, was clearing his gun but didn’t remove the magazine first, causing the weapon to fire. Emergency responders treated the victim on scene before taking him to McLaren Lapeer. Alcohol was involved, and the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Charges are being reviewed by prosecutors.

A Lexington man was seriously shaken but survived after hitting a deer on his motorcycle Friday evening in Lexington Township. The man was riding south on South Lakeshore Road near Wiltsie Road when a deer suddenly crossed in front of him. He crashed, was thrown about 15 feet into a nearby ditch, and his motorcycle slid 150 feet before stopping. Emergency crews from Croswell treated him on the scene, then took him to McLaren Port Huron Hospital for further care. Neither speed nor alcohol played a role.
