100 Men Event Returns to Port Huron

The Community Foundation and its Community Capital Club (C3) group are hosting the 2025 “100 Men” event on September 4th. The event goal is to have at least 100 men attend at a cost of $100 each and then give away $10,000 that evening to a local nonprofit program, project or organization. The 2025 event will be hosted on the south side of Port Huron at the site of one of the largest mixed-used waterfront developments on this side of Michigan.

16 Year Old Accused of Throwing Fireworks at Sterling Fest

A 16 year old boy is accused of throwing lit fireworks at people during the city’s festival in Sterling Heights. The incident happened at the Sterling fest, a three day community festival along Utica road that includes a carnival, live music, art and food trucks. At least one person suffered a severe burn injury.

Walmart Parking Lot Robber Charged

A Port Huron man will go to jail for a robbery outside a local Walmart store St Clair County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Lane sentenced Eric Chippewa to a year after his charge of armed robbery was reduced to unarmed robbery as part of a plea deal. Police had previously said that Chippewa approached a truck driver in the parking lot in Fort Gratiot and asked for $20 from the truck’s driver. When the driver refused, Chippewa said he had a gun and demanded the money. Chippewa apparently never did actually have a gun.

Boater Runs Out of Gas on Lake St. Clair

An overdue boater in the Michigan waters off Lake St Clair has been found safe having run adrift after fuel ran out on the personal watercraft. The Ira Township Fire Department, along with South Water Rescue were requested to help after emergency dispatchers got a report that the boater was an hour overdue for arrival back at the boat launch.

Suspected Venezuelan Gang Member Arrested by Border Patrol

A second suspected member of a Venezuelan gang is now arrested in Michigan. US Customs and Border Patrol says agents arrested a man believed to be a member of Tren de Aragua in Macomb County. Last week, the 30 year old was taken into custody during a traffic stop. The vehicle was reportedly stopped because of a fake license plate. Local police contacted CBP when they realized there were three undocumented men inside the car. One of them was known to have connections with a Venezuelan street gang that formed in the country’s prison system and is now considered a foreign terrorist organization.

Men and Women Who Cook

The 17th annual men and women who cook event is planned for Marwood nursing and rehab on Wednesday, August 13, from five to 7:30pm at the Marwood campus. Funds raised from the event will be used to renovate Marwood’s Main Lounge as they try to reach their goal of $25,000 to provide residents, families and visitors, a comfortable, modern multipurpose room for years to come.
