Resurfacing of M-29

Starting April 28th, the Michigan Department of Transportation will resurface M-29 between Chartier Road and Belle River Avenue in Marine City. The $1 million project will include asphalt repairs, joint fixes, and sidewalk upgrades to meet ADA standards. Construction is expected to last until June, with one lane open in each direction. These repairs aim to provide a smoother, safer driving experience. Governor Gretchen Whitmer emphasized that this project is part of a larger effort to improve Michigan’s roads, supporting local jobs without raising taxes.

Local Hero Honored

A local man, only identified as Michael, received a Citizen’s Award by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office for his actions during a January vehicle fire. Michael was driving on Lakeshore Road and noticed a car on fire near Wilkes Drive. With someone still inside, he quickly pulled over. Thanks to a fire extinguisher he had just placed in his car, Michael was able to control the flames long enough for help to arrive. His quick thinking likely saved the driver’s life.
