Starting April 28th, the Michigan Department of Transportation will resurface M-29 between Chartier Road and Belle River Avenue in Marine City. Students from St. Clair County’s Technical Education Center (TEC) earned 19 medals at the recent SkillsUSA Michigan State Conference in Grand Rapids. Among the top achievers were Lucas Bauman and Allane Stamplis, who won gold in metal machining and welding, respectively. Their victories earned them spots at the national competition in Atlanta this June. A total of 67 TEC students participated in the event, showcasing skills in automotive technology, culinary arts, welding, and more.

A local man, only identified as Michael, received a Citizen’s Award by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office for his actions during a January vehicle fire. Michael was driving on Lakeshore Road and noticed a car on fire near Wilkes Drive. With someone still inside, he quickly pulled over. Thanks to a fire extinguisher he had just placed in his car, Michael was able to control the flames long enough for help to arrive. His quick thinking likely saved the driver’s life.
