The civil lawsuit against former Yale Chamber treasurer Kellie Lauwers is moving forward after a six-month pause. A St. Clair County judge delayed the case while state police finished a criminal probe. That review has now been sent to the Attorney General. The chamber claims Lauwers secretly wrote checks to herself, forged signatures, and edited profit and loss sheets to hide more than $32,000 over two years. She allegedly admitted wrongdoing but offered no repayment. A status hearing is set for November 19th in Port Huron.

Marysville police say fraud scams are spiking in town and seniors are being targeted. Officers stopped a crew last Tuesday that tried to trick a local couple with a fake concrete job near the RESA campus on Range Road. One person was arrested and released as charges are prepared. Police say the group has a multi-state crime history. Residents are urged to only hire reputable companies and to report suspicious activity or fraud to Marysville Police at 810-364-6300.

A two-vehicle crash last Wednesday morning in Evergreen Township sent a Deckerville woman to the hospital. Around 7, a GMC Terrain driven by the 76-year-old failed to stop at the intersection of North Van Dyke and Deckerville Road and was struck by a northbound Ford Transit van from Marlette. The collision left the van on its side in a ditch and the SUV on the roadside. Firefighters had to free the woman from her SUV before Sanilac EMS transported her to McLaren Lapeer. The van driver was checked at the scene and released.
