Mural Painting Event

The Blue Water Area Rescue Mission is hosting a mural painting event on April 26 at 1920 24th St., Port Huron, to support its efforts in helping the homeless. Local artists will lead the creation of a mural symbolizing hope and renewal on the shelter’s south wall. Sponsored by local businesses, the mural is part of a larger initiative to renovate a nearby building into transitional housing for men experiencing homelessness. Donations, sponsorships, and participation in the event will help provide shelter, life-skills training, and support for those working toward independent housing.

The Joshua Conant Ordinance

Port Huron City Council passed “The Joshua Conant Ordinance” on Monday, requiring security staff to be trained on positional asphyxiation. The move follows the tragic death of Joshua Conant, who died after an altercation with bouncers outside Roche Bar in November of ’23. Conant’s mother fought tirelessly for the rule change. The ordinance was celebrated by the community, with hopes it will prevent future deaths. Local officials, including Rep. Joe Pavlov, plan to push for a state version of the law, drawing on their own personal losses to support the cause.
