No Workforce Housing Project

The St. Clair County Board rejected selling a downtown parking lot for a $17 million workforce housing project. Port Huron City Manager James Freed pitched the 50-unit Robin Crest development, calling the housing shortage a “critical crisis.” The county-owned lot, last used by AT&T, was set for a $250,000 sale, though its assessed value is $550,000. Commissioners cited rushed timing, property value concerns, and parking needs. Proximity to the wastewater plant also raised issues.
