Students at Schall Elementary in Caro were evacuated Tuesday morning after pepper spray from the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office drifted onto campus during disposal of expired canisters. Children on the playground first reported burning eyes and throats before the smell spread inside the school. Local Police, Fire, and Rescue responded, treating several students on site while crews aired out the building. The sheriff’s office has apologized, saying it will review and improve disposal procedures to prevent another incident.
