Port Huron Sends $870K to Rental Aid

Port Huron leaders are shifting federal housing money to meet a growing need. City council voted 6-0 Monday to send nearly 870-thousand dollars toward rental help for people who are homeless or at risk. Blue Water Community Action will keep running the program through at least ’28. Officials say demand is rising as pandemic aid dries up and a waitlist is already in place. Earlier plans for a new shelter fell through due to high federal requirements and cost, so the city is focusing on immediate rent support instead.
