Neighbors in Port Huron Township’s Maywood area could soon see fewer sewer backups. The Environmental Protection Agency is awarding the township $1,450,000 to replace the Maywood sewer pump station, which has run for nearly 50 years and now needs costly repairs. Congresswoman Lisa McClain, a Michigan Republican, announced the money. Township Supervisor Bob Lewandowski says a new station with modern technology should serve residents for another 50 years. The project should cut the risk of equipment failures and messy sewer backups. McClain requested the funding in ’23.
